An imposing house dating back to
the 14th
century, a home mainly to generations of stove makers to the governing
aristocrats, the Rozmberk family. Hence its name, Athanor, which
derives from the Arabic word "al-tannur"
(oven),the furnace used by the
alchemists to perfect matter.
Athanor
House is a listed building situated in the historic part of the
UNESCO-listed town
of Cesky Krumlov
in South Bohemia. The house sits in a
quiet
elevated
position overlooking the town's two focal points, the Castle and the
church of St
Vitus, yet is only 2-3 minutes walk from the central square.
We are British/Czech, with a background in film-making
and fine art. Apart from providing
rental space, the house also serves as our family
retreat. Within the house we offer three
completely self-contained apartments for
visitors. The visitors also have the use of our lovely
garden, and parking spaces which are at a premium
in this mostly pedestrianized town.
In
addition our mediaeval rooms serve
both as a self-contained flat, or, when not used as such, as a free
common space: a warm, comfortable oasis for our visitors to relax in.
The
mediaeval rooms can also be hired as an occasional meeting place for
small seminars, art classes, screen-writing workshops etc.
The atmosphere in the house is friendly, artistic and homely, yet the
apartments offer all the comfort and privacy you would expect to find.
And we are always at hand should you need any advice or help.
